Entertainment & Activities

Outside Home Activities

Residents are encouraged to maintain their social responsibilities, obligations and privileges as private citizens, such as being informed of current affairs, voting and continuing to take part in community events.

Regular day trips are organised to surrounding areas such as Richmond, Huon Valley and other locations. Independent shopping excursions also occur frequently with the facility bus taking residents to a shopping venue of choice. Family members are most welcome on these outings.

 Special Services

The Mary Ogilvy Homes Society offers a wide range of additional services to our residents and includes such things as:

Food Services - a daily menu with extensive options is provided. Click here for a sample of the menu

Laundry Facilities - Personal laundry facilities are provided for residents at the home. Provision is made for Dry Cleaning to be picked up and delivered to the Home, with the resident responsible for the payment of this service.

Library Services - The Volunteer Community Services Library attend each fortnight with a selection of books for residents. Hear-a-Book tapes are also available to compliment the already extensive Mary Ogilvy House library.

Hairdressing - a Hairdresser visits the Home weekly for those residents who wish to use her services. If you would like to continue using your own hairdresser and can not visit their salon any more, they are more than welcome to visit you at the home. Residents are responsible for the cost of these services.

Beautician - A beautician visits regularly each fortnight and is available for massage, manicures, make up, reflexology, facial waxing, eyebrow shaping and many other services. Residents are responsible for the cost of this service.

Podiatrist - Our Podiatrist visits every 4 weeks or whenever required. An appointment is essential for this service.

Physiotherapist - Our Physiotherapist visits twice weekly. She assesses residents for physiotherapy programmes and oversees their implementation and progress both individually and as a group.

Newspapers - Residents may order newspapers and magazines from the local newsagency and the newsagent will send monthly accounts to each resident. Communal copies of The Mercury are distributed around the building each morning.

Kiosk - a Kiosk run by the Mary Ogilvy House Auxiliary members is open at 10am each Thursday morning. Items not available may be ordered for the following week.

Religious Services - Uniting, Anglican and Catholic Church representatives hold services at Mary Ogilvy House. Ministers of other denominations also visit. You are welcome to invite your own spiritual advisor to visit.

Newsletter - A resident and staff newsletter is produced monthly. It includes the minutes of the residents monthly meeting, an activities calendar for the coming month, items of interest and fun, photographs, reports of previous activities and outings and much more.

Residents Meeting - the residents meet one day a month. Residents or their representatives are welcome to attend. Issues of concern or interest are discussed, plans for activities and outings put forward, in-house changes or recommendations to staff or Board can all come from this forum.
